As we mentioned in the previous paragraph that the names of God that came in an honorable hadith on the authority of the Almighty, are 99 names. However, there is a big question we always ask ourselves concerning the names Allah. This is what i present next. But are there only 99 names of Allah?

Some scholars have argued that Allah has more than 99 beautiful names. They articulated that there is no specific number of God’s names, elaborating that Allah has an unlimited number of names. They have based this argument based on another tradition as we are going to see below

Why they say Allah has more than 99 names – Response to the above Hadith

• The number mentioned in the hadith of the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, does not mean that God’s Most Beautiful Names are only 99, but what is meant is that whoever memorizes these names will be rewarded with Paradise.

In another tradition, He said: (I ask you by every name that is yours that you named yourself with, or taught to one of your creations, or revealed in your book, or you have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with you).

Elaboration of hadith of more than 99 names

The above hadith indicates that there are many beautiful names of God and that they are not limited to the number 99.

It is worth mentioning that belief in the names of God depends on three pillars:

1. that the Muslim believes in the name,
2. that he believes in the meaning of the name from the meaning,
3. that he believes what This name has consequences in the life of a Muslim,

 Therefore, a Muslim believes that God is forgiving and forgives his servants, for he is the possessor of great forgiveness, and his mercy is merciful and encompasses everything, so he enters his servants and whomever he wills into his mercy.

The Holy Qur’an contains in its surahs and verses many of the most beautiful names of God, which indicate the greatness and power of God Almighty,

Purpose of Allah’s names

The purpose of these names is to introduce a man to his Creator, almighty the most merciful, and to unite him and link the entity and mind of man to God Almighty, which frees his mind from suspicions and impurities and works to achieve its function in the reconstruction of the universe.

So man will use these beautiful names in his supplication and Dua and prayers

Categories of Allah’s names

The names of the Almighty God are divided into more than one category, and they are:

• Names that He taught of the angels and His chosen servants.
• Names by which God Almighty named Himself.
• Names mentioned in the Holy Book of God.
• And other names that God Almighty has preserved in his knowledge of the unseen.
