Al-Qaaidah Al-Quraaniyyah an Introduction to Tajweed by Qari Muhammad Idrees Asim Renowned Teacher of Tajweed & Qira’at
The points of articulation are as follows:
The interior ( al-jawf ): from it come the three letters of elongation ( huroof al- madd ): \ alif, waw, yaa.
The deepest part of the throat, i.e., the furthest from the mouth and closest to the chest. From it come two letters: hamzah and o haa’.
The mid-throat, i.e., the area attached to the Adam’s apple from the bottom. From it comes two letters: ‘ayn and C haa’.
The nearest part of the throat, i.e., the closest to the mouth. From it come two letters: ghayn and khaa’.
Qaaf comes from the innermost part of the tongue, next to the throat, and what is adjacent to it of the upper jaw.
Kaaf comes from the lowest innermost part of the tongue, next to the throat, and what is adjacent to it of the upper jaw.
The middle of the tongue. From it come three letters: jeem, ( sheen and S yaa’ (when not elongated)
Daal comes from one of the two sides of the tongue along with the edge of the upper molars.
Laam comes from one of the two sides of the tongue, towards the front of it, along with the gums of the upper teeth.
Raa’ comes from the underside of the tip of the tongue, slightly behind the point of articulation of noon, along with the gums of the upper central incisors.
