ISLAM IN TRANSITION MUSLIM PERSPECTIVES Edited by John J. Donohue
About the Book
Much has happened since the publication of the first edition of Islam in Transition: Muslim Perspectives. Nothing symbolizes this more than 9/1 1 and the threat of global terrorism to both Muslim and non-Muslim societies.
Islam and Muslims have experienced many transformations, challenges, and threats in recent decades. These include the emergence of new Islamic republics and governments, the fall of the Taliban, democratization movements from North Africa to Southeast Asia, and the global impact and ongoing threat from Muslim extremists, epitomized by Osama Bin Laden and al-Qaeda.
These resulted in the decision to bring out a second, thoroughly revised edition. We have retained those texts that remain relevant to understanding the development and trajectory of Muslim thought and have added many new selections that reflect the changing dynamics of Muslim discourse and politics.
