Description of this work:

Jami al Kamil is the collection of authentic hadiths arranged according to topics in one collection. It took more than fifteen years to compose it, and the most difficulties the author faced were the issues related to the ruling on hadiths: such as criticism, approval, defects, and others.

Ziya-ur-Rahman mentioned some of his writings, his records, the chains of transmission. Then he introduced the book with a brief overview of the era of documentation and the importance of following the Sunnah and learning hadith and its sciences. He mentioned the importance of extracting authentic hadiths and the attempts of the imams in that, such as Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Hibban, and others.
One of the reasons for writing “Al-Jami Al-Kamil” is that he was often asked about a comprehensive collection that would collect authentic hadiths from collections of Sunnah, books of interpretation, jurisprudence, history, and others. He did not find anyone who had exhaustively examined the authentic hadiths from these books and arranged them in one collection. He felt the importance of that in understanding the Qur’an, jurisprudence of the rulings, and other branches of Islamic knowledge. Because if the hadiths are collected in one place, they explain each other, which helps jurists, interpreters, and others to derive authentic rulings. He mentioned other reasons that encouraged him to write it. Therefore, he sought guidance from Allah and began writing it.

He talked about the number of authentic hadiths, which in his opinion are between 12,000 and 15,000 hadiths, most of which are in the six books, Musnad Ahmad, and Muwatta Malik. As for the authentic hadiths outside these books, he does not think they exceed 2,000 hadiths. Then he explained his method in collecting hadiths: which is to collect the six books and Muwatta Malik – and he did not mention the Mu’allaqat of Bukhari or the Balaghat and Murasil of Malik – and this is based on the origins and not on the books of additions such as Al-Jami’ Bayn Al-Sahihayn by Al-Hamidi or Jami’ Al-Usul by Ibn Al-Athir. Then follow the authentic hadiths in addition to these books from “Majma’ al-Zawa’id” by al-Haythami, “al-Mataleb al-Aliyah” by Ibn Hajar, the book of Abd al-Razzaq, the book of Ibn Abi Shaybah, the Sunan of Saeed Ibn Mansur, the Sunan of al-Darimi, al-Muntaqa by Ibn al-Jarud, the Sahih of Ibn Khuzaymah, the Sahih of Ibn Hibban, the books of al-Tahawi and al-Darqutni, the Mustadrak of al-Hakim, the books of al-Bayhaqi, and the individual books of hadith in specific chapters such as the books of tafsir, the books of creed, the books of rulings, the books of asceticism, the books of supplication, the books of morals, and other books of hadith.

He said that the addition to these books of dictations, parts, oddities, dictionaries, and printed and handwritten sheikhs is mostly strange, odd, and fabricated.
He spoke at length about the method he followed in correcting and weakening hadiths. He relied on the correction of the early imams, and perhaps mentioned the rulings of some of the later ones, and made the last of them Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar, and did not mention the rulings of anyone after him. He did not correct the strange or extremely weak hadiths with authentic evidence. He spoke about the methods of the imams in their books and the degrees of their documentation and who among them is acceptable, clarifying the strict and lenient among them. He pointed out what he followed in some topics such as: the narrators’ chain of transmission, the uniqueness of the trustworthy or his addition in the chain of transmission or the text, and the topics of confusion, ignorance, and differences in connection and sending, raising and stopping.

Here is his method in narrating hadiths: he mentions everything that is authentic in the chapter and refers to it or limits it to what is necessary in another chapter, and mentions the famous weak hadiths or those that have many witnesses and established origins in the graduation and not in the body of the book, in order to show their weakness. He mentions the hadith and then its graduation from the chain of transmission. Sometimes he mentions some of the hadiths attributed to the Companions. If the opinions of the Imams differed in accepting or rejecting the hadith, he discusses it. For example: If the hadith is good, then he explains why it was dropped from authenticity, or why connecting is preferable to sending or raising is preferable to stopping or other than that. He tried to link between the Qur’an and the Sunnah, whether by naming the chapter with the verse or mentioning it after the name of the chapter. He took care to reconcile the hadiths or hadiths and verses that appear to contradict each other, and sometimes he explains the strange and explains the doctrine of the Salaf or the words of the jurists when necessary. He began with the Book of Faith, then Knowledge, then the rest of the books until the last book: The Description of Paradise and Hell.
