Sahifah e Sajjadiya – Supplications
SAHIFAH E SAJJADIYA – SUPPLICATIONS
The supplications of Zain al-Abidin, one of early Islam’s most revered religious figures, are collected in this collection.
His grandfather, the Prophet’s cousin and son-in-law Ali b. Abi Talib, was adopted by the Prophet when he was a child.
Fatima, the Prophet’s adored daughter, was his grandma. Zain al-Abidin was revered not just by the followers of the Prophet’s Household, who regarded him as their fourth Imam and the only religious authority of his day, but also by Muslim educated circles in general.
His time in Medina was marked by a rising interest in the Prophet’s Traditions, particularly those dealing with legal issues.
Zain al-Abidin was regarded as an eminent traditionist among Medinan scholars. Al-Zuhri bestowed upon him the title Zain al-Abidin (the Ornament of the Worshipers), which relates to his commitment to prayer.
Thus, based on the overwhelming number of stories recorded by both Shi’a and Sunni authorities, it appears that Zain al-Abidin was widely respected by the community as a whole for his extraordinary traits, such as his piety, forbearance, learning, and kindness.
