The Fragile Vessels Rights and Obligations Between the Spouses in Islam by Muhammad Al Jibaly
THE FRAGILE VESSELS RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS BETWEEN THE SPOUSES IN ISLAM
The Quran contains Allah’s exact words. These words cannot be exactly translated into other languages because of possible misinterpretations and limited human understanding.
It is best to translate the meanings as understood by Muslim scholars. This is what is attempted here.
When an āyah is cited, the Arabic text is quoted first, followed, between double angle quotation marks, by the English meaning in boldface. The meaning is extracted from books of tafsir and from accessible translations.
The location of a Quranic citation is specified in a footnote. It provides the name of the sürah followed by its number and the number(s) of the dyah(s) cited. Similarly, when we cite a hadith, we provide the Arabic text for the Prophet’s words, and follow that by its meaning, in boldface, between single-angle quotation marks.
A footnote normally specifies the location of a cited hadith in the Hadith compilations. The footnote indicates as well its degree of authenticity and the names of scholars who made such judgment, A hadith narrated by al-Bukhari or Muslim is automatically considered authentic.
