Ibn Abd Rabbih (860–940), an Arab writer and poet from Cordova, now in Spain, produced al-Iqd al-Fard (The Unique Necklace), an anthology seeking to include “everything that a well-informed person had to know in order to pass in society as a cultured and refined man” (or adab).
