UNDERSTANDING HALAL FOODS
Those who migrated are from most of the Muslim countries such as Arab lands, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Burma, Africa, China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Russia, Albania, Bosnia, and Iran, etc.
These Muslims brought with them their schools of thought (Hanafi, Shafii, Hanbali, Maliki, and Jafari [Shiites]) along with their customs, habits, and traditions.
They are highly educated in science and technology, but not in matters of Shari’ah.
They have, however, a love for their religion. Those who accepted Islam are mainly the African-Americans, the Hispanics, and the Caucasians. These new Muslims have had different customs, habits, and food requirements. They had to readapt their food habits and requirements to the Islamic Shari’ah.
It was not easy for them because it took time to find out the true information as well as the availability of Halal food stores. However, they were able to add different varieties of menus to their food.
Lately, they transcended all types of difficulties and were able to practice the teachings of Islam concerning Halal food. As far as the concept of Halal food is concerned, Muslims are not yet in agreement with one another.
Their understanding of each other’s school of thought is also not clear. Some disagree with the interpretation of the Islamic teachings with others who are of the same
